Mefjordvær

Today we check out of the tiny house, but because of the bad weather we take it slowly.

All we actually want to do is drive to Mefjordvær, where our next Airbnb is, normally only 15 minutes away by car. But because the road is closed for the construction of avalanche barriers, we have to drive around the entire island of Senja, which takes two hours. We combine this loop with some shopping in Finnsnes, on the Norwegian mainland, where there are more shops than on Senja. As the weather is still not great, we skip hiking and instead take a look at what lies along the route. It is a scenic road, so fantastic scenery makes the drive a pleasure. We stop at several elevated lay-bys along the road and let our eyes wander over the landscape, always on the lookout for moose.

One planned stop is Tungeneset, a viewpoint with fantastic views of the tall surrounding mountains. We enjoy the view and take pictures of the reflections in the water.

We also stop at a beach, and somewhere else we look for a lighthouse. We never reach it, though, because the path is flooded, and at the first opportunity Annina manages to sink in up to her ankles, at which point we decide that today is just not the right weather for it.

It is already evening when we arrive at our Airbnb in Mefjordvær. The house is very big, especially compared to the tiny house of the last two days. We have it all to ourselves, and it has everything we need and more. We enjoy our dinner of mashed potatoes, köttbullar and vegetarian pølser.
