Husøy

Today we sleep in for the first time in days, and it feels really good! The weather doesn’t look too promising, so we decide not to go hiking and to take it easy. We drive to Husøy, a tiny island right next to Senja. There we buy groceries for today and tomorrow at a Joker supermarket and walk to the lighthouse at the other end of the island, where we look out over the open sea.

But then an unpleasant drizzle starts, prompting us to walk briskly back to the car. We continue to our second stop: Fjordgård, a small village across the fjord from Husøy. The drive there is spectacular and takes us through terrain that looks exactly like a moose could jump out at any moment. So we keep a sharp lookout, but don’t see any. We would probably need to drive through there at dusk to see them, as they are quite shy during the day. We also drive through tunnels that look pretty scary, especially when you consider that they carry traffic in both directions. But we are lucky and are the only car going through at that time. In Fjordgård there is not much to do apart from a visit to the local shop, Nærbutikken Fjordgård. The trailheads for Segla and Hesten are also located in this village. We would have loved to do these two hikes, but with the persistent drizzle the weather is not cooperating at all. Maybe we can do them tomorrow. So we drive back to our tiny house, where we relax, work on our photos from the last few days and play a game of Monopoly. For dinner we have Thai curry soup with noodles and naan. It doesn’t sound like a great combination, but it actually works very well and tastes good. We watch tennis while we eat. Nadal is playing Tiafoe in the round of 16 at the US Open.
