Offersøykammen - Henningsvær

We are not the only ones who like it here. The animals do too: In the morning we see a large shoal of fish and a few jellyfish drifting in the sea in front of our beautiful accommodation. Unfortunately, this is already our last day in the south of Lofoten. We check out and drive to Hamnøy and Sakrisøy one last time. In Sakrisøy we go to Anita’s Seafood Restaurant and get a Kanelsnurr and a coffee to go. With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Sakrisøy and Hamnøy, our favourite places, walk once more to the viewpoint by the bridge at Hamnøy and then leave the south of Lofoten. The weather is beautiful yet again. In Ramberg we stop at Bunnpris and browse in the Lofotenstore once more.

But we also have our next stop to look forward to: We want to repeat the hike up Offersøykammen. Last year we did it under cloudy skies, only to realise at the top that we had forgotten the drone batteries. Now we want to make up for that mistake. The trail is very steep again, but after an hour and a half we are standing on the summit of the 436-metre mountain. And the view from up there is simply indescribable: Mountains, islands and sea all around us, a full 360 degrees. There are hardly any other people up here. The sun lights up the surrounding mountains, and the sea shimmers light blue around the islands. We declare this our favourite hike in Lofoten.

For a while we have the mountain all to ourselves, so we take the opportunity to get some drone shots. The videos are just going to be epic. We have a picnic before we hike down and then drive to Henningsvær. On the way we buy groceries. We arrive in Henningsvær in time for sunset. The drive was beautiful and took us past bays and beaches. At the outermost point by the football pitch we stop, take more drone shots and enjoy the sunset over the sea.

In the evening we arrive at our Airbnb, which is very large and modern. We have dinner first (spinach and cheese tortellini, our traditional holiday dish) and set up our cameras for the northern lights again. We drive to nearby Rystad Camping, where we stayed last year. The northern lights don’t keep us waiting long. The campsite lies on a beautiful beach, surrounded by mountains and sea, the perfect place for hunting northern lights.

And to make this day perfect, the northern lights show their best side. They can be seen everywhere, dancing across the whole sky, and they are so strong that there is a small northern lights explosion. Pictures describe this spectacle better than words.

A German tourist is just as excited as we are, and we take photos together for a while. Very tired, we drive back to our accommodation, knowing that unfortunately we won’t get much sleep again.
