Kvalvika

We get up a little later, as we were up late yesterday because of the northern lights hunt. Today will be one of the most beautiful days of our trip to the Lofoten. That is why we want to hike to Kvalvika Beach once more, to experience this beach and the hike in sunshine as well. We already fear we won’t find a parking space, since it is Saturday and we are running late. But we are lucky today too and grab the last space, right next to German campers who are still having breakfast outside. We are used to the ascent by now, but this time it is much more pleasant, as the stones are not slippery, the mud is a little less and there is no unpleasantly strong wind. At times we even hike in T-shirts! On the descent we have to climb a little and cross steep slabs of stone with a stream running over them. But the effort pays off, because a wonderful panorama of beach, mountains and sea opens up before us.

When we arrive at the beach, the sun is still hidden just behind the mountain and the beach is still in shadow. But after a few cooler minutes the first rays of sunshine appear from behind the mountain and bathe us and the whole, almost deserted beach in warm sunlight.

For us, Kvalvika is clearly the most beautiful beach in the Lofoten. We enjoy nature and take a few photos before choosing a great spot for our picnic. Annina has a yoghurt and a cheese sandwich, Nicolas a triple chocolate muffin and the usual cheese sandwich. We have now clearly arrived at our most beautiful lunch spot here in the Lofoten. “It doesn’t get better than this!”

As time is getting on, we set off on the way back with heavy hearts. After a lot of climbing and hiking we get back to our car. Since the weather is so lovely, we stop once more at the two Twin-Bridges between Fredvang and Ramberg and watch the sunset.

After the usual shopping stop we drive to our accommodation and eat spaghetti with pesto. Because of the clear sky we are already looking forward to more northern lights, but this time solar storm activity is very low, so we see none. But we still have plenty to do editing the northern lights photos we shot yesterday.
