Bodø - Å - Ramberg

The day starts with the breakfast buffet at the Scandic Havet. As we are used to from Scandic, there is everything and more, and it is delicious. Breakfast is served in the Havneutsikten restaurant on the second floor.

Afterwards Nicolas picks up the rental car from Sixt at the airport. It is a fully electric Ford Explorer. Nicolas reserved it in advance because it has the longest range of the electric cars on offer, around 500 kilometres. It had to be an electric car anyway. Almost nothing else is available to rent, and a petrol car would have cost twice as much.

We drive the Ford to the ferry terminal. The Torghatten ferry takes us across the Vestfjord to Moskenes on the Lofoten Islands in about three hours. Thick clouds cover the sky, and from the deck we see the mountains along the coast above the grey water. On the way a three-masted ship sailing under the Dutch flag passes us.

Towards the end of the crossing the Lofoten mountains appear ahead of us. The peaks are in the clouds, only a few rock faces catch the light. In Moskenes we drive off the ferry and turn left towards Å. This is where the E10 ends, and beyond it there is only the open sea. In 2022 we drove straight here from the ferry too, and in February 2024 we came here in sunshine and snow. This time it is rather cloudy but dry, and we still see the end of the world in sunshine. We walk to the cliffs at the outermost edge of the village, where the sea breaks against the rocks below us. By the water the red rorbuer of Å stand on their stilts, the trees behind them have already turned autumn colours, and mist hangs over the mountains.

On the way back we stop briefly in Sakrisøy at the famous yellow house. By now it has become hazy, and Olstind behind the house stands grey in the mist. Right in front of the house there is a “No Parking” sign, with barriers set up next to it. The ochre-yellow rorbuer of Sakrisøy also stand here on their piles above the water.

Then we drive on to our Airbnb near Ramberg. It is probably the most beautiful Airbnb we have had so far. There is a fireplace, a huge wall of windows and a very well equipped kitchen. Everything is modern, very clean, well thought out and tastefully furnished. There is even a charging point for electric cars, which is of course handy for our Ford.

For dinner we have spaghetti with tomato sauce and pesto.
