Napp - Henningsvær - Kasfjord

Sadly, we spend this beautiful sunny day mainly in the car, because today we drive back to the north of the Lofoten, close to the larger town of Harstad, since it is near the airport and we fly home again early tomorrow morning. We leave our lovely accommodation in the late morning. It really doesn’t make the goodbye easy for us, as the mountains are reflected in the smooth sea and the sun is shining warmly.

The drive took 4 hours in total, but of course we make various stops. We drive along the coast most of the time. Above all the many rainbows give us reason again and again to stop. The “Rainbow Season”, as we named it, lives up to its name.

Our first longer stop is in Henningsvær. We were already here on the way out at the start of our trip, but we only know the town in the rain, so we want to see the little fishing town in sunshine as well. Above all the big football pitch on an island makes a great photo and film subject with the drone. Next we drive to Svolvær and look at the harbour. We don’t stay long though, since we still have the longest stretch ahead of us. On the drive Annina spots a black dot in a clearing on a slope that seems to be moving. Nicolas mounts his good zoom lens and sure enough, we can make out two moose grazing peacefully on the meadow in the pictures! That is a huge coincidence, because the moose are well camouflaged. We stop at a few more viewpoints with views of snow-dusted mountains and drive straight to Harstad, where we shop one last time.

After that it is another 20 minutes to Kasfjord. Our accommodation is on a farm and very cosy. We explore the area and look for a suitable place to see northern lights, as the forecast sounds promising. In the evening we cook sweet potato soup and have potato salad with it. Afterwards we stay up and keep watch for northern lights, but unfortunately the sky stays too cloudy for us to see any. Probably better that way for our journey the next day anyway. We have to fly three times, from Narvik to Oslo, from Oslo to Vienna and from Vienna to Basel. One thing is certain though: this was not our last time on the Lofoten!
