Henningsvær - Gimsøy

According to the weather forecast it is supposed to rain or be cloudy all day today. So we aren’t planning any hikes today but want to look at the village of Henningsvær. It lies on the southern coast of the larger island of Austvågøya in the Lofoten. On the way we stop at Rørvikstranda, a beach with beautifully clear, blue water and white shell sand. That sounds like perfect swimming weather, doesn’t it? Actually yes, but unfortunately the weather isn’t playing along. With an air temperature of 6 degrees, pouring rain and strong wind, you would rather not find out how cold the sea is here. Nevertheless, we take a few more photos before we hop back into the car.

By the way, the car has a heated steering wheel, heated seats and a heated front and rear window, so it is perfectly equipped for the weather up here in the far north. We continue to Henningsvær, a small fishing village with a fantastic football pitch on a small island surrounded by the sea. We walk through the village. There are many cute little shops, and with a constant view of mountains and sea we reach the football pitch. Nicolas flies the drone, Annina enjoys the view of the sea.

Suddenly strong winds and rain force us to land the drone hastily, otherwise it would take off and be gone. Afterwards we go shopping in the village and drive back to the beach from earlier, but the weather isn’t really better. Our next stop is the church of Gimsøy, which looks very impressive in pictures because it stands right by the sea. After a half-hour drive over lots of potholes we reach it and head off with the camera right away.

It is dry for a moment, but then it really starts to pour and we get soaking wet. Luckily we are still able to stow the cameras in time. Enough rain for today. We go back to our nice, warm, red, grass-covered little house, edit photos, cook delicious tomato spaghetti and hope for northern lights.
