We had a very pleasant and quiet night here by the lake. We like this Airbnb so much that we decide to stay one night longer. Luckily the hosts reply right away that the cottage is still free. We enjoyed our breakfast looking out over the lake and are planning the day. Our destination is Reivo nature reserve. Before that we go shopping in Arvidsjaur and visit the Sami town of Lappstaden, built in the 17th century, which is located in what is now the town centre. The Sami came to these houses to fulfil their church obligations. The old wooden buildings are no longer inhabited, but they are used every year for the big gathering day toward the end of August.
On we go to Reivo nature reserve. A very adventurous “road” with potholes, deep mud and snow leads us to our destination.
We both gladly take on the challenge of driving this obstacle-strewn stretch and begin to appreciate relaxed driving on tarmac roads more. We also appreciate the four-wheel drive of our rental car once again, because without it we would not have made it up the steep, snow-covered muddy roads on our summer tyres. Of course we are once again the only people far and wide and enjoy the peace and nature. There are a few lakes and a great deal of forest. Annina spots a young moose standing far away at the edge of the forest. At first we take it for a tree stump, but with Nicolas’ zoom lens it becomes clear that it really is a moose. Here is the picture taken at 200mm on full frame and the crop on the moose. Would you recognise the moose straight away?
On the way back we meet a few reindeer again, who have to serve as photo subjects. The nature reserve is the perfect destination for nature lovers, and perhaps more accessible in summer.
Back in Arvidsjaur we buy a few forgotten groceries and spend the evening in our cosy house by the lake with a crackling fire. Before that, though, there is a bit of fitness, and of course we again have plenty of pictures to edit.
