As a matter of routine we pack our things in the morning and leave the accommodation rather early, because today we again have a lot planned. Our first destination is the colourful fishing huts of Smögenbryggan on the southern west coast of Sweden. The drive there takes rather long, because the road ahead of us is being resurfaced and it takes a while until we can overtake the three construction vehicles.
When we arrive we are overwhelmed by the variety of colours of the little houses and the light blue, shimmering sea. We take lots of photos and then walk (or rather climb) over large loose rocks nearby that lead to the sea. From there we have a great view of a lighthouse and a sailing boat leaning into the wind.
We drive on to the “Backa Rock Carvings” in Brastad. There we see depictions carved into stone that date from the Bronze Age. The images, nearly 3000-4000 years old, can still be clearly recognised. Among other things they show the god Thor and a horse, which they sacrificed to the god after winning a traditional horse race.
Our second-to-last stop is the Stångehuvuds Naturreservat in Lysekil. There is a path there that leads towards the sea. Once again we have a very beautiful view of sailing boats and enjoy the sea breeze blowing around us.
Then we head on to our Airbnb. Suddenly the GPS says: “Take the ferry!” and we know that we have taken a wrong turn. Or maybe not? Together with many cars and trucks we drive onto the ferry. The ferry sets off right away. We can get out and enjoy the wind. On the way to the next island another ferry comes towards us, which is even carrying a regular bus. That is an interesting form of public transport, too! Everything runs very smoothly and we are still not sure whether the whole thing is actually free of charge!?
Our Airbnb is on the island of “Orust” on a small farm. The young hosts welcome us warmly and explain everything to us. They even have a flea market, which they open especially for us. The flea market fills an entire, very large shed and offers all kinds of junk and antiques.
This time we cook very simply in the evening: There are microwave meals, fresh bread and a tomato and mozzarella salad.
