Nubben - Kvalvika

According to the weather forecast, today is supposed to be much better than yesterday, even properly sunny.

We are greeted by a rainbow in front of our cabin first thing in the morning, but a rainbow needs rain, after all. By the time we want to go hiking, it is unfortunately raining again. We don’t let a little rain stop us, though. We had planned to hike up Nubben, a small mountain near the little village of Ramberg. So we put on our hiking boots and start the trail. It winds its way up the rather steep mountain and starts out relatively harmless. Halfway up the mountain the path gets muddier and muddier, we do nothing but sink into the mud and there is no sign of improvement, so we decide to turn back. The mountain is covered in fog by now anyway, so we would not have had a view at the top either. Outside it is now raining quite hard and we are back in the car. We need an alternative, because we were really set on hiking today. So we decide on the direct hike to Kvalvika Beach. Right at the start of the trail there is a car park, where we manage to grab the last free spot. Compared to the previous one, this hike starts out quite easy. There is a boardwalk that leads over the wet stretches. Then the “real” ascent begins, though, over loose stones and scree, through mud and over rocks. At the top, however, we have a wonderful view of Kvalvika Beach.

We add to this treat with our picnic, which we eat up high in strong wind. Because of the wind we don’t linger any longer than necessary and set off on the way back. Here too we are very glad about our high hiking boots, which protect us from any water, mud and scree and make our steps less likely to slip. Of course we see sea eagles on this hike as well, after all we are hiking in the Lofotodden National Park! We get back to the car and warm up with the heated seats and steering wheel, before we go shopping for tomorrow. Back in our beautiful cottage, we first eat a soup and edit our photos from today. For dinner we have tortellini cooked in spinach soup.
