Budapest - Vienna

We actually manage after all to get up early on our last morning here in Budapest to see the sunrise from Fisherman’s Bastion. We get up at a quarter to 6 and set off on the path that we have already walked there and back 4 times in the last 24 hours. Once we are up there, we know right away that getting up early was absolutely worth it. The rising sun shines just above the magnificent-looking Parliament on the Pest side and bathes the city below us in a fiery red. Apart from us, only a few people have the idea of coming up here so early, mostly wedding couples having themselves professionally photographed in the romantic mood. We also take lots of photos of the view and of ourselves. We enjoy the calm morning atmosphere and watch the city wake up.

With the memory cards of our cameras full, we go back to the hotel and fill our stomachs at the hotel’s wonderful breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, after breakfast it is time to pack our suitcases, because we are leaving the city again this afternoon and travelling on to Vienna. We still spend the morning and midday in our hotel garden, though. Over a cool lemonade we search once more for accommodation in the Lofoten and edit the beautiful pictures from this morning. We order lunch with Wolt one last time and eat it on the Danube. Then we walk for half an hour with our luggage to Budapest-Déli station. From there we have booked a train directly to Vienna (for only 9 euros including a drink). The train ride is uneventful, the train leaves on time, but the air conditioning could have worked better. By early evening we are already in Vienna and take an Uber to our hotel. Unfortunately Vienna welcomes us with rain and a thunderstorm, but after the high temperatures in Budapest, some cooling down is very welcome. At the hotel we order food with Mjam deliveries (dumplings and curry).
