We leave Basel early on Saturday morning. We’re off on another trip! This time we are travelling with the global Interrail pass, by train. Our first stop is Hamburg.
After a long train journey, which was a bit tedious because we only had reservations for part of the route and so had to spend a lot of time looking for seats, we arrive in Hamburg.
First we take a taxi to the hotel, where we check in and leave our luggage. Then we head off into the city, because we want to explore it!
We walk towards the harbour, where a lot is going on: Today there is a kind of festival with street food and music in Hamburg harbour! We stroll between the festival stalls and then decide to walk on to the Elbphilharmonie to look at the beautiful buildings there and in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt.
On the spur of the moment we also decide to take an evening boat tour, which shows us the city lights as it cruises through the harbour. So in the evening we head back towards the harbour, where we pick up potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer) and Indian food from the street food stalls. Our boat tour starts at 20:30 and we have a great captain who introduces us to the city of Hamburg and the world of ships in a very funny way.
After the boat tour, we happen to find out that there is a laser and drone show in the harbour from 22:30. There is a great place to watch it near the landing pier. We find ourselves a nice spot and get an Aperol Spritz to round off the evening with the show.
