Offersøykammen - Henningsvær

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Sakrisøy and Hamnøy, and then make up for last year's failure: the hike up Offersøykammen, this time with drone batteries. The 360-degree panorama crowns it our favourite hike in the Lofoten. After sunset in Henningsvær, the northern lights practically explode above us at Rystad.

Not only do we like it here very well but also the animals do as we see a large shoal of fish and some jellyfish floating in the sea in front of our beautiful accommodation in the morning. Unfortunately, this is already our last day in the south of Lofoten. We check out and drive one last time to Hamnøy and Sakrisøy. Sakrisøy we go to Anita’s Seafood Restaurant and get a Kanelsnurr and a coffee to go. With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Sakrisøy and Hamnøy - our favourite places, go once again to the bridge at Hamnøy to the viewpoint and then leave the south of Lofoten. The weather is once again beautiful. In Ramberg we stop at Bunnpris and also shop once again in the Lofotenstore.

But we can also look forward to our next stop, we want to do the hike to Offersøykammen again. Last year we did this hike under cloudy skies and then realized at the top that we forgot the batteries for the drone. We now want to make up for this mistake. The trail is again very steep, but we arrived at the top of the 436-meter mountain in an hour and a half. And the view up there is just indescribable. 360 degrees completely around us are mountains, islands and the sea to see. There are hardly any other people up here. The sun shines on mountains lying around and the sea shimmers light blue around the islands. We choose this hike as our favorite hike in Lofoten.

From the air: a green peninsula in turquoise water with mountain ranges behind From the summit over islands and shallows to the jagged skyline Lakes, green domes and mountains as far as the eye can see Turquoise shallows between the islands, the open sea beyond A headland lying flat in the deep blue sea The 360-degree panorama from the summit of Offersøykammen A turquoise bay with single rock islands in the water

For a while we are completely alone on the mountain, we take the opportunity and make some drone shots. The videos are just going to be epic. We picnic before hiking down and then drive to Henningsvær. On the way we buy groceries. In Henningsvær we arrive in time for sunset. The drive was beautiful and took us past bays and beaches. At the outermost point by the soccer field we stop and take drone shots again and enjoy the sunset over the sea.

From Offersøykammen: the sun high above the ridge, glittering on the sea Backlight over the sea turning the mountainsides into silhouettes Three fly agaric mushrooms in the moss beside the path A steep rock face dropping straight into the fjord Two mountainsides overlapping against the pale horizon On the drive to Henningsvær, cloud hangs over the ridge with the fjord still below A pointed mountain above deep blue water on the way to Henningsvær A dark sandy beach and the sea in flat evening light Straight down: Henningsvær with its football pitch on the rock islands Henningsvær from the air, the village spread over dozens of small islands The football pitch of Henningsvær in golden evening light Sunset over the sea with the mountains in dark silhouette The horizon glowing orange above the mountain ranges

In the evening we arrive at our Airbnb, which is very large and modern. We have dinner first (spinach and cheese tortellini, our traditional vacation dish) and set up our cameras again for northern lights. We drive to the nearby Rystad Camping, where we stayed last year. The northern lights are not long in coming. The camp is surrounded by mountains and sea with a beautiful beach, the perfect place to go Northern Lights hunting.

And to make this day perfect, the northern lights showed their best side. They were everywhere to be seen, dancing all over the sky and were so strong that there was a small northern lights explosion. Pictures can describe this spectacle a little better.

A green band of northern lights rising vertically above the ridge Northern lights over the fjord, the village lights reflected below The corona right above us, its rays converging overhead A single band standing like a column above the dark mountain Fine green streaks crossing the starry sky A broad arc of aurora spanning the fjord Northern lights over the coast, the orange house lights below A flat band lying above the horizon, mirrored in the water A single ray standing steeply in the starry sky Northern lights falling like a curtain behind the ridge Green rays breaking open above the summit The explosion filling half the sky above the mountain Bands and rays layering over one another above the ridge A bright knot of aurora right above the summit At the end the light settles as a broad band across the mountain

Another German tourist is also so excited and we photograph together for a while. Very tired we drive to our accommodation and know that unfortunately we will not get much sleep again.
