Mefjordvær
It should be 15 minutes to Mefjordvær, but a closed road turns it into a two-hour loop around the entire island of Senja. We make the best of it: shopping in Finnsnes, the Tungeneset viewpoint with perfect reflections, and a lighthouse hunt in which Annina's shoes sink in ankle-deep.
Today we check out of the tiny house, but due to the bad weather we start the day slowly.
Actually, we only want to drive to Mefjordvær, where our next Airbnb is located, which under normal circumstances would only be 15 minutes away by car. But because of a road closure due to the construction of avalanche barriers on the road, we have to drive around the entire island of Senja, which takes two hours. We combine this round trip with some shopping in Finnsnes, on the Norwegian mainland, where there are more stores than on Senja. As the weather is still not great, we decide not to go hiking today, but to do things along the route. As it is a scenic route, we always have a view of fantastic landscapes to sweeten the drive. We stop at several elevated parking spots along the road to let our eyes wander through the landscape in search of possible moose.
One planned stop is Tungeneset, a viewpoint with fantastic views of the tall surrounding mountains. We enjoy the view and take pictures of the reflections in the water.
We also stop at a beach and at another point we search for a lighthouse. We never reach it, however, because the path to it is flooded and Annina manages to sink her shoes to her ankles at the first opportunity, whereupon we decide that it’s just not the right weather for it today.
It is already evening when we arrive at our Airbnb in Mefjordvær. The house is very big, especially compared to the tiny house of the last two days. It is a cottage just for us, equipped with everything and more. We enjoy our dinner of mashed potatoes, köttbullar and vegetarian pølser.
