Basel - Edinburgh
The Scotland trip begins: an evening flight to Edinburgh and the best seats in the double-decker bus into town, where the castle already towers illuminated above everything. The first evening gets properly Scottish, local beer, two single malts and a pub full of live music where, by the end, everyone is dancing.
Off we go on another trip to the north - but this time to Scotland. We start with a pleasant evening flight to Edinburgh and take the bus to the city centre. The ride is already great, as we can get the upper front seats in the double-decker bus. We arrive in the city centre at dusk, the Castle is already beautifully lit. We walk the remaining quarter of an hour to our hotel, the Apex City Hotel. After a small key fiasco (our hotel room door wouldn’t open even after a few exchanged hotel key cards) we go to a pub to start our trip properly Scottish. We drink some pints of beer from a local brewery (the neighbour of this pub) and sample our way through two single malt whiskies. The atmosphere in the pub is terrific, there is live music from a Scottish singer who plays one traditional hit after another either on his banjo, ukulele or simply with drum and harmonica. The whole pub sings along to his songs and at the end everyone is even on the dance floor - aka the aisle. That’s the way to start our journey.
